At HoYS we focus on teaching traditional Yoga. We do our best to offer ancient, time-tested teachings from India that are illuminated in a variety of Sanskrit texts. The teachers of Heart of Yoga School are all daily yoga practitioners, and true facilitators of peace; not simply exercise instructors. The primary focus of our teaching is:
Hatha Yoga – Body and breath yoga with an emphasis on balancing and purifying the subtle energy body. The primary text we use is Hatha Yoga Pradipika.
Bhakti Yoga – The yoga of love and devotion. Music and the Bhakti texts like Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavata Purana, Ramayana, and Narada’s Bhakti Sutras help us go deeper.
Karma Yoga – The yoga of selfless service. Karma Yoga is actually the very Heart of HoYS.
Raja Yoga – The yoga of meditation and understanding the inner workings of the mind as prescribed by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras.
Jnana Yoga – The yoga of wisdom as prescribed in the Vedas and the Upanishads. This is also known as Vedanta.
Nada Yoga – The yoga of sound and vibration. Classical Indian Music is profoundly healing on an emotional and physical level.
